Gerhard Kaufmann (composer)

Gerhard Kaufmann (* 1944 in Reutlingen ) is a German church musician and composer.

Life

After an apprenticeship as a lithographer , he began studying church music in Esslingen am Neckar in 1963 , which he completed in 1971 with the A-exam with Hans-Arnold Metzger . He received composition lessons from Rolf Hempel . After working as cantor at the Stephanuskirche in Stuttgart-Giebel from 1965 to 1971 , he was appointed district cantor to Nagold in 1971 . From 1986 to 2010 he was district cantor at the collegiate church in Tübingen , where he was appointed church music director in 1995 . Here he directed the Tübingen Motet and founded the Tübingen Composers' Talk. Kaufmann received several composer prizes, including a. by the Association of Evangelical Church Music Württemberg and at the Gustav Mahler Competition.
