Gaston Rivero (born February 6, 1978 in Montevideo , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan-American opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Gaston Rivero was born in Montevideo , Uruguay and grew up in Buenos Aires , Argentina . He grew up there in Abasto (a district of Balvanera ), where the central fruit and vegetable market was located, and the Carlos Gardel Museum is also located there today . In Buenos Aires he received music lessons at the National Conservatory of Music. His father was a tenor at the Teatro Colon in Argentina.

At the age of 23, Gaston Rivero moved to New York City to continue his vocal training with private tutors. The conductor Eugene Kohn became Rivero's mentor and sponsor.

Rivero made his debut at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2002 . In the following year, director and producer Baz Luhrmann hired him for his production of Puccini's La Bohème on Broadway . Rivero made his European debut in 2005 in the role of BF Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at the Staatstheater Nürnberg . Since then, engagements have taken him to the Opéra de Monte Carlo , the Berlin State Opera , the Deutsche Oper Berlin , the Leipzig Opera , the Opéra National de Paris Bastille , the Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie Bruxelles , the Arena of Verona , the National Theater Tokyo , the Stuttgart Opera , the Hungarian State Opera Budapest , the Opera Orchestra of New York, the Aalto Musiktheater Essen , the Teatro Massimo di Palermo , the Grand Theater Opera National de Bordeaux , the Teatr Wielki. He worked with Daniel Barenboim , Ulf Schirmer , Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Gianandrea Noseda , Daniel Oren , Massimo Zanetti , Anthony Bramall , Philipp Stölzl , Johannes Schaaf and Kirsten Harms .
