The American Berlin Opera Foundation (ABOF) is a foundation founded in 1986 and based in New York City .

The purpose of the foundation is to support young American opera singers, to place them in European opera houses and to gain international experience. Funding is available to people aged 18 to 30 who live in the USA. A ten-month training course at the Deutsche Oper Berlin , a language course at the Goethe-Institut and a living standard are sponsored through a grant of US $ 15,000.

The initiator of the foundation was Götz Friedrich , director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. The 12-headed founding members also included the American soprano Karan Armstrong, Friedrich's wife, Tassilo von Fürstenberg , Alard von Rohr , Alan B. Shepard and others. a.
