Gerhard Klauss

Gerhard Klauß (born October 9, 1944 in Bad Suderode ) is a former German circus director . He was general director of the GDR State Circus .

Life

Gerhard Klauß, who was born into a salaried family, graduated from the POS Bad Suderode in 1961 and subsequently trained as a typesetter until 1963 . Until 1964 he was employed as a typesetter at VEB Diagram Printing Quedlinburg. He then completed a degree in pedagogy and passed the practical school exam at the Institute for Teacher Training in Quedlinburg . From 1966 to 1969 he was active in public education and then between 1970 and 1972 head of the events department at the Frankfurt (Oder) cultural center . From 1972 to 1973 he was head of public relations at the Kleist Theater in Frankfurt (Oder) .

He was responsible for the circus system for the first time from 1973 in his position as department head or director for international relations and agency in the VEB Central Circus / State Circus of the GDR. He held the office until 1985. In the meantime, from 1980 to 1982, he completed postgraduate studies at the Institute for Continuing Education of the Ministry of Culture at the Berlin Art Academy . In 1986 he became 1st Deputy Director General of the State Circus of the GDR, one year later, on January 1, 1987, then as successor to Otto Netzker himself there as General Director. After reunification, he changed in 1990 from the role of general director to that of the managing director of the Berliner Circus-Union GmbH (BCU).

Since 1992 he has been working as a freelancer in the circus and show industry, as well as in the media sector, in particular for film and television (German Artist Agency (2001–2002), Show & Media Consulting, Turtleprod London Ltd.).

Until 2003 Klauß was President of the International Variety, Theater and Circus Directors Association in Berlin. He was also a member of the jury at international festivals. a. at the International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo and at the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain in Paris .
