Gerhard Klein (pedagogue)

Gerhard Wilhelm Klein (born March 21, 1932 in Stuttgart ) is a German educational scientist. He is a retired professor of special education .

Studies and achievements

Gerhard Klein grew up in Heimsheim and attended high school in Korntal . From 1952 to 1954 he studied in Stuttgart at what was then the Pedagogical Institute (PI) and then worked in various places, including Pfullingen , as what was then known as an elementary school teacher. In 1956/1957 he completed additional training as a secondary school teacher at the time and worked as such until 1959. From 1959 he studied education, philosophy, psychology and psychopathology in Tübingen and Bonn . In 1964 he started working for Andreas Flitner in Tübingen with the work of personality development at school. An educational study of German post-war children on Dr. phil. PhD . From 1965 he was first a lecturer and then professor for special education at the Reutlingen University of Education . After its dissolution in 1987, the special education department was attached to the Ludwigsburg University of Education . Among his students was Wolle Kriwanek .

From 1984 to 1990 Gerhard Klein was co-editor of the special education magazine . In 1994 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon, in 2012 the Citizen's Medal of the City of Pfullingen and in 2013 the Montessori Prize of the foundation "Montessori-Pedagogy-Reformed Pedagogy-Science". The focus of research and teaching was education for the learning disability, early intervention and Montessori education . Since his retirement in 1997, he has been teaching Montessori education. He is the author of scientific publications and textbooks for special schools.

Gerhard Klein is widowed. His wife Regine Klein died in 2008. He lives in Pfullingen and has four children.
