Gerhard Lion

Gerhard Löwe (* 1923 in Leipzig ; † 2006 ibid) was a German classical philologist .

Life

Gerhard Löwe was born in 1923 and attended the König-Albert-Gymnasium in Leipzig. There he graduated from high school in 1941. After the war he studied classical philology and ancient history in Leipzig. In these subjects he received his doctorate there in 1961. He then worked as a freelance publicist, several times within a collective of authors. With his publications, including translations, encyclopedias and textbooks, he made a decisive contribution to maintaining the ancient heritage in the GDR. He died in Leipzig in 2006 at the age of 83.
