Clearing Silent Field

Opening of the Stillefeld clearing in September 2009

The Stillefeld clearing is a park made of concrete relief pillars. The park was created on a clearing of an old oak tree that was already cleared by the storm. Designed as a square field of 20 m × 20 m, it is formed by a lawn area of 16 m × 16 m square, which is surrounded by a two-meter-wide system of paths. 8 concrete steles (measuring 80 cm × 80 cm × 215 cm) are set up on the lawn: seven standing and one lying. Relief images made of clay-colored concrete are attached to all four sides of the steles, which are intended to thematize silence in an abstract visual language. Eight different symbols are used, each of which has been cast four times. The artist's intention was to create a place that is open to the public and represents a retreat from the hectic everyday life.
