Gerhard Picot (born March 7, 1945 in Hemer ) is a German lawyer , university professor and publisher and author of legal textbooks.

Picot studied law and economics at the Universities of Freiburg and Bonn by 1970. He then studied the basics of economics and business administration in 1971. At the same time, he completed the Tax and Operations course to become a specialist lawyer for tax law. Picot wrote his dissertation on the subject of “Profit redistribution and constitutional law” as part of a performance grant from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. In 1975 he completed his legal traineeship with the second state examination in Düsseldorf. Gerhard Picot specializes in the areas of business law, corporate law and corporate governance, mergers & acquisitions (company acquisitions and sales, company mergers, IPO), private equity, cooperations and public-private partnerships as well as restructuring (outsourcing).

Professional Activities

After completing his legal traineeship in 1975, Gerhard Picot was a research assistant at the Institute for Labor and Business Law at the University of Cologne for two years. In addition, he began his part-time job as a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences for Insurance in Cologne, which he held for a total of 10 years. In 1979 Gerhard Picot became a lawyer and partner in the international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Cologne, where he also held the position of Managing Partner Finance / IT from 1989 to 1996. In 2004, Gerhard Picot founded the PICOT law firm, where he has been a senior partner since then. He was also the managing partner of PICOT corporate solutions GmbH, whose business he brought into O&R Corporate Finance AG in Munich in 2012 as co-partner, chairman of the supervisory board and M&A consultant. Since 1998, Gerhard Picot has also taken on various scientific activities in research and teaching. This includes holding the commercial law honorary professorship at the Institute for Mergers & Acquisitions (IMA) at the private university Witten / Herdecke until 2005. From 2003 to 2005 he was also a lecturer at the law faculty of the University of Cologne. Then from 2005 to 2009 he held the chair for business law with a focus on mergers & acquisitions and co-director of the Strategic Finance Institute SFI at the European Business School (EBS).
