Gerhard Preyer

Gerhard Preyer (* 1945 in Schlimpfhof ) is a German sociologist .

Preyer teaches as an adjunct professor at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. He conducts research in the transdisciplinary area between philosophy and sociology. He has been the journal ProtoSociology since 1991 . An International Journal of Interdisciplinary Research at the Goethe University. A research project is connected to the journal.

Preyer works in the field of sociological theory and comparative sociology as well as the philosophy of language and others. a. to the American philosopher Donald Davidson . In the last twenty years he mainly re-systematised the globalization debate and presented a special globalization concept. Within the framework of sociological theory, he presented a membership-theoretical systematization of the theory of social systems and the sociological theory of evolution. Since the beginning of 1990 he has carried out a project on globalization research and modernization theory as part of the ProtoSociology research project.

The main focus of his philosophical research over the past 10 years has been on the philosophy of mind, semantics and the problems of epistemological externalism. As part of the proto-sociology research project, he carried out studies on contextualism in the philosophy of language, semantic minimalism and the critique of holism.
