Gerhard Ring

Gerhard Ring (born 1957 ) is a German law scholar and university professor.

Life

Ring studied law, history and political science at Saarland University from 1976 to 1981 . In 1982 he passed the first state examination in law, followed by legal clerkship until 1985 and postgraduate studies at the University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer , which he completed with a master's degree in administrative sciences. In 1985 he passed the second state examination in law and obtained the degree of licentiate in law. Until 1988 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Trier . In 1989, he received his doctorate in law. From 1988 to 1996 he was a civil servant in the Ministry of Science and Research of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia , most recently as Ministerialrat . In 1995 he completed his habilitation. In May 1996, Ring took over the chair for civil law, German and European commercial law at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg , which he has held since then. Since 1999 he has been the managing director of the Institute for European Economic and Environmental Law in Freiberg . From 2009 to 2015 he was co-editor and editor of the magazine Neue Justiz . Visiting professorships have taken him to Rhodes University , Grahamstown , South Africa, Dresden International University and Karl Franzens University Graz . Ring is married to Line Olsen-Ring from Denmark, who holds an honorary professorship at the law faculty of the University of Leipzig .

Publications (selection)

Ring is co-editor of the Nomos Commentary BGB (complete edition) and in particular of the volume BGB Property Law. He also publishes the series of writings on the practice of industrial property protection (by Peter Lang).
