Gerhard Saddle
Gerhard Sattel (born January 2, 1956 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a former German wrestler .
Career
Gerhard Sattel began wrestling as a teenager at VfK Schifferstadt . Under the wing of his then coach Hermann Fouquet and later under Paul Neff , the Schifferstadt veteran developed into one of the best freestyle wrestlers in Germany at the end of the 1970s.
At the age of 14, Gerhard Sattel played his first Bundesliga fights. One of his teammates at VfK Schifferstadt at the time was the legendary Wilfried Dietrich . Gerhard Sattel was a regular wrestler for 15 years and at times team captain of VfK Schifferstadt as well as regional coach in freestyle. The mentally and physically strong lightweight (up to 68 kg) always put himself at the service of his team, fighting in welterweight (up to 74 kg), light heavyweight (up to 82 kg) and even in featherweight (up to 62 kg) if it was for success the crew was required.
Gerhard Sattel was appointed to the national team in 1975. With his national team mates Martin Knosp , Adolf Seger , Peter Neumair , Eduard Giray , the Passarelli brothers and Rolf Krauss , Sattel took part in numerous tournaments and courses from 1976 to 1980. He qualified for the European Championships in Bursa (1977), Sofia (1978) and Bucharest (1979) as well as for the World Championships in Lausanne (1977), Mexico City (1978) and San Diego (1979). The politically motivated boycott of the Moscow Games prevented him from participating in the 1980 Olympic Games.
Today Gerhard Sattel lives with his wife Christiane in the Neustadt an der Weinstrasse area .
