Gerhard Schulmeyer

Gerhard Schulmeyer (full name Gerhard Hans Schulmeyer , born September 17, 1938 in Mörfelden / Hessen , today's Mörfelden-Walldorf ) is a German manager and former CEO of Siemens-Nixdorf (1994–1998).

Professional background

Gerhard Schulmeyer did an apprenticeship from 1955 to 1958 at what was then Braun AG in Kronberg . In 1962 he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering at the engineering school in Frankfurt (presumably the German technical college degree in electrical engineering). From 1966 to 1967 he obtained a Bachelor of Science in International Business at the Academy for World Trade at the University of Frankfurt (name of the German degree unknown). From 1973 to 1974 he earned a Master of Science degree in Management Science ( MBA ) from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

He then went through various positions at Braun and Gillette , which Braun had taken over in 1967. In 1980 he moved to Motorola , where he was Senior VP and General Manager from 1985 . From 1989 to 1994 he was, by his own account, Group Executive Vice President at ABB .

From 1994 to 1998 he was CEO of Siemens-Nixdorf . After Siemens-Nixdorf was dissolved, he was President and CEO of Siemens Corporation USA until 2001 . From 2000 to 2006 he was a professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management .

He was a member of the board of Alcan (now Rio Tinto Alcan ), Arthur D. Little , Ingram Micro , Korn / Ferry International and Zurich Financial Services .

Effect at Siemens Nixdorf

The extensive changes that Gerhard Schulmeyer introduced at Siemens Nixdorf have been examined several times in science. Then he created his own program (Change Program), which was based on three pillars:

  • Change in behavior of managers and employess
  • Change of work system
  • Change of processes

The program resulted in Siemens Nixdorf returning to profitability in 1996.
