Gerhard Schumann (born August 7, 1919 in Leipzig , † November 2, 1989 in Spain ) was a German doctor .

Live and act

Gerhard Schumann studied medicine at the Georg August University in Göttingen . Here he joined the Holzminda fraternity in 1940 . During the Second World War he served as a troop and medical officer in Poland, France and the Russian campaign. In 1945 he received his license to practice medicine . In 1946 he helped found the Rohns auxiliary hospital in Göttingen, which took over medical care for the Friedland refugee camp . In 1947 he settled in Friedland as a general practitioner.

Schumann was one of the founders of chirotherapy in Germany. But also in Spain he introduced chirotherapy as a treatment method in 1959/60 at the request of the Madrid Medical Association. In Madrid he played a major role in the development of the German Hospital.

From 1972 to 1982 he was the first chairman of the Göttingen district association of the professional association of general practitioners and general practitioners (BPA) and was elected honorary chairman in 1983 in recognition of his achievements. In 1974 he was jointly responsible for the establishment of the Göttingen Medical Apparatus Association . From 1977 to 1985 he was involved, among other things, in a key role in the medical self-administration of the Lower Saxony Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians and the Lower Saxony Medical Association. As a member of the Cancer Conference of the Federal Ministry of Health , he made important contributions to the reorganization of the health insurance structures as well as to the rehabilitation and aftercare of cancer patients.

In 1976, due to his many years of experience in looking after prisoners of war, refugees and emigrants, he was appointed by the Lower Saxony state government to coordinate medical care for Vietnamese refugees .
