Gerhard Stamer

Gerhard Stamer (* 1939 in Berlin ) is a German philosopher .

Life

In 1962, Stamer was vice European champion in judo . From 1964 to 1968 he studied at the University of Frankfurt mainly with Theodor W. Adorno, then broke off a dissertation project with Jürgen Habermas . Stay abroad in Paris 1969. From 1971 to 1978 he worked in shipbuilding at Blohm & Voss in Hamburg , where he also served on the works council for a short time . In 1984 he finished his studies in Hanover with Oskar Negt with a dissertation on the critique of knowledge and the labor movement .

In 1994 Stamer founded the non-profit association Reflex as an institute for practical philosophy in Hanover. The focus is on the connection between tradition and the present. In this institute, Stamer developed a spectrum of wide-ranging activities from regular courses, to public lectures, series of lectures, radio broadcasts, comments in Internet forums, publications and study trips, to conferences such as the symposium funded by the Volkswagen Foundation with a pragmatic approach to universality - the philosophy in Bologna- Trial in November 2008.

Stamer also founded the Philosophy Foundation and was the initiator of the Leibniz Day , which was celebrated annually from 2006 to 2009 on the birthday of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz in Hanover on July 1st.

From 2003 to 2006 Stamer was vice chairman of the International Society for Philosophical Practice . He has been teaching at the University of Bamberg since 2010 and at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences since 2018 .

Stamer lives in Hanover with his wife Ingrid Hentschel .
