Gerhard Stradner

Gerhard Stradner (* 1934 in Klosterneuburg ) is an Austrian musicologist .

Life

The musicologist who comes from a family of musicians studied mathematics before turning to music. From 1981 to 1999 he was director of the collection of old musical instruments in Vienna . He fundamentally revamped the permanent exhibition of the collection. A concept was pursued that was based on the musical history. Each of the twelve exhibition halls is assigned to a music-historical era or a musical personality.

His son Christoph Stradner is a well-known cellist.
