Gerhard von Wylre (* 14th century in Aachen ; † 1440 ibid) was a German lay judge and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .

Live and act

The son of the Aachen citizen Ludwig von Wylre († 1402) and Aelke von der Keyart was first mentioned in a document in 1385 when he took part in the siege of Reifferscheid Castle as part of the last campaign of the Maas-Rhine Peace Alliance . From 1406 at the latest he belonged to the jury's chair and in 1407 to the delegation of Johann van den Berge , who negotiated with the imperial councilors about the planned repetition of King Ruprecht's coronation ceremonies . This negotiation was necessary because the official coronation had been forbidden in 1401 by the Aachen city council due to the dismissal of Ruprecht's predecessor Wenzel von Luxemburg , as they did not agree to it. The coronation of Rupert was then in Cologne and without transfer of the imperial insignia place and Aachen with several years of outlawry punished.

Finally, von Wylre was the first of his family - six more officials were to follow later - in the years 1416/17, 1429/30 (questionable), 1431/32 (with Wilhelm von der Hagen as "mayor" from the ranks of the Guilds) and in 1436/37 elected mayor of the city of Aachen three or four times, as the sources of "von Coels" are contradicting his tenure in 1429.

Von Wylre was married to Katharina Havermann, with whom he had at least three children. His grandson Wilhelm von Wylre became the next mayor in the family.
