Gerhart Schäfer

Gerhart Schäfer (born September 30, 1926 in Bamberg ; † February 1, 2018 ) was a German composer and university professor.

Life

During his school days from 1938 to 1942, Schäfer completed a preliminary course at the Conservatory in Osnabrück with the subjects violin, piano and theory. At the Detmold University of Music he studied composition with Wilhelm Maler and also violin and viola . He was a pedagogue in Leverkusen , lecturer in composition and music theory at the Dortmund Municipal Conservatory and from 1974 to 1986 professor for composition and music theory at the Detmold University of Music, Dortmund department.

  • Music prize of the city of Recklinghausen for the work “Concerto for oboe and small orchestra”, 1956.
