The Germaniabad was a bathing facility that existed until the 1970s on the western edge of the Leipziger Südvorstadt south of the racecourse on the Scheibenholz .

history

The Leipzig fishermen's guild built a river bath in the Pleißemühlgraben on Schleußiger Weg in 1870 . At that time the Schleußiger Weg still ran west of the Pleißemühlgraben coming from the city center, turning west at the Bad and had no connection to Kronprinzstrasse, today's Kurt-Eisner-Strasse. Soon the fishing bath, also known as the fishermen's guild bath, received masonry pools before it passed into the possession of the Germaniabad Society in 1894 and was henceforth called Germaniabad.

When Kronprinzstraße was connected to Schleußiger Weg at the beginning of the 20th century, the pool was now directly on the street. After numerous extensions, the pool area covered more than 13,000 m². It had three swimming pools, light and air baths, around 400 changing rooms and a lawn for sunbathing. There were also playgrounds, a bowling alley and a restaurant. On peak days there were up to 8,000 visitors.

After severe damage in World War II, the bathroom was restored. During the GDR era it was called the summer pool at the Scheibenholz. In the 1970s, the pool was closed because the route of the four-lane federal road B2 , which was built at the end of the 1970s, leads over the former site of the pool.
