Gert Bear

Gert Bär (born September 13, 1946 in Heringen ) is a German mathematician .

Life

Bär studied at the TU Dresden from 1965 to 1971 and then worked as an assistant in Dresden and at the TU Karl-Marx-Stadt . He wrote his dissertation in 1969 at the TU Dresden and received his doctorate there in 1972. He then worked from 1975 to 1977 at the TU Chemnitz and from 1977 to 1985 as an assistant professor and qualified as a professor in 1984 - the PhD B became a habilitation in 1991 transformed. In 1985 he was appointed associate professor and in 1992 full professor for geometry / kinematics at the TU Dresden.

In addition to mathematics, Gert Bär is also involved in painting and has published and exhibited some works of art based on mathematical phenomena.

Act

Bär's main research interests are geometry and its applications, computer-aided geometric design, computer-aided graphics and visualizations, as well as kinematics and robotics. So far he has published the following works, among others:

  • 1977: Parametric interpolation of empirical space curves (essay)
  • 1985: Construction of Dupin's indicator matrices of screwing and turning surfaces in contact (article)
