Gert Schlechtriem (born May 8, 1929 in Aurich ; † November 25, 1998 in Bremerhaven ) was a German folklorist and museum director.

Schlechtriem graduated from the commercial school in Aurich and studied folklore, prehistory, art, economics and literature at the University of Cologne , the University of Bonn , the University of Hamburg , the University of Kiel and the University of Münster since 1950 . During his school and university days he was active in the area of ​​local history. From 1957 to 1959 he carried out inventory work in museums in Münster and Detmold .

In 1959 he took over the management of the Morgenstern Museum in Bremerhaven, which was still provisionally housed and in 1960/61 received new exhibition rooms at Kaistraße 6 at the marina. Since 1966 he has been able to anchor the first museum ships in Bremerhaven in the Old Harbor. The collection on shipping history was given to the newly founded German Maritime Museum in the early 1970s and Schlechtriem also became one of the three directors of this museum. He succeeded in building a new building in 1987. Linked to this was a new concept in terms of content, design and didactic, with the focus on the city's history. Until 1992 he remained head of the Historisches Museum Bremerhaven / Morgenstern Museum, which was renamed in 1987 . He has distinguished himself as a brilliant organizer of the museum, its special exhibitions and the procurement of exhibits and has received several awards for this. In 1966 he was a co-founder of the Maritime History Society .
