Gertrud Höchsmann

Gertrud Höchsmann (born September 30, 1902 ; † 1990 ) was a Viennese fashion designer.

Höchsmann graduated from the Vienna School of Applied Arts with Josef Hoffmann and Oswald Haerdtl . From 1927 to 1967 she ran a fashion salon, in 1959/60 she was appointed head of the fashion class at the Academy of Applied Arts Vienna and held this professorship until her retirement in 1972.

Höchsmann was regarded as an avant-garde of Viennese haute couture. Her preference for clear lines and muted colors was known. Höchsmann received the City of Vienna Prize for Fine Arts (Applied Art category) in 1947. She was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .
