Gerty Blacher-Duke
Gerty Blacher-Herzog (born July 14, 1922 in Aachen , † January 21, 2014 in Berlin ) was a German pianist.
Gerty Herzog, daughter of the steel manager Eduard Herzog (1886–1951) and his wife Dorothy, was not admitted to the Berlin School of Music in 1938 because she was considered " half-Jewish " under the Nuremberg Laws . She took private lessons from Wladimir von Horbowski and Siegfried Borris . Music has been dedicated to her throughout her international career. This includes 5 piano pieces for Gertie from 1951 by Rudolf Wagner-Régeny and the piano concerto op. 20 by Gottfried von Eine .
Her marriage to Boris Blacher in 1945 resulted in four children. The daughter Tatjana Blacher is an actress in Berlin, the youngest son Kolja Blacher is a violinist and professor of music in Berlin.
