The entire system Berneck in Berneck , a former city and present-day area of Altensteig in the district of Calw in Baden-Wuerttemberg , consists of the area of the 14th century from the Bernecker Castle and its castle hamlet emerged upper town on the spur between Köllbach- and Bruderbachtal and the upstream younger development with mill pond in the valley floor.

Berneck is one of the smallest medieval city ​​complexes in the northern Black Forest . The upper town has retained its original silhouette and structure. The townscape is still dominated by the mighty shield wall of the Upper Castle, the Protestant parish church and the gabled residential houses that sit on the steep slopes of the former city ​​wall .

Because of this importance, since 1983 Berneck has been a complete facility in accordance with Section 19 of the Monument Protection Act, the preservation of which is of particular public interest .
