history

The five-storey, plastered residential and commercial building was built in 1909 in a prime urban location in the style of the turn of the century with a large hipped roof for the Herms wool shop. Downstairs were the shops, offices and storage rooms, and from the 3rd floor on, the apartment of the owner Albert Herms. In terms of design, it is symmetrical with a representative neoclassical facade structured by wall templates and bay windows on the upper floors. The reinforced concrete pillar facade shows large shop windows on the ground floor. The frieze-like group of relief fields with figurative representations above the 1st floor probably comes from the Bremen sculptor Heinrich Erlewein, who also worked on the New Town Hall .
The State Conservation Office Bremen wrote: "The building is one of the best performances in Bremen's business house building of its time."
In 1979, an extensive remodeling.
