Gun leader

A gun leader ( GF or GsFhr for short ) is the leader of a gun group within the artillery force . He is thus to be equated with a group leader . The gun leader is responsible for the soldiers who report to him . He reports to the platoon leader of the gun platoon .

In the Bundeswehr , the gun leader is the commander of the Panzerhaubitze 2000 . The position of a gun leader is occupied by a sergeant with portepee and is therefore also called gun sergeant. The ranks deployed range from sergeant to chief sergeant .

The gun leader is responsible for the following activities:

  • Training of gunners
  • Guiding the gun in fire fighting
  • Monitoring the activities of the gunners in fire fighting
  • Management and maintenance of the equipment and material entrusted to him

During his training at the artillery school, the gun leader learns extensive knowledge about ammunition as well as the functionality and use of his gun, so that he can operate it even if individual components fail.
