The protected landscape component field wood north of the Mühlenberg with an area of 0.74  hectares is located in the urban area of Marsberg east of Essentho and in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated in 2008 with the Marsberg landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis as a protected landscape component (LB). The LB borders in the south and east on the landscape protection area Randhöhen between Sintfeld and Diemeltal and in the west and north on the landscape protection area Heidenpost / Steintwisten and Niedernfeld .

description

The LB is an area with shallow soils on Zechstein limestone. The slopes of the LB slope to the east and south. The eastern area of the LB is a beech field wood with a species-rich herb layer of a woodruff beech forest. In the west lies pasture grassland with a beech group. There is a spring on the southern edge, which is surrounded by some trembling aspen and other trees. The following source stream forms the southern border of the LB.

According to the landscape plan, the LB is a species protection and optically invigorating landscape element.

Protection purpose

The designation as LB took place:

  • To maintain, develop or restore the efficiency and functionality of the natural balance
  • For revitalizing, structuring or maintaining the townscape and landscape
  • To ward off harmful effects

Like the other LBs in the landscape plan area, the LB represents an outstanding habitat for the ecological performance of the natural balance. It also serves as an element that structures and animates the landscape. The designation serves to ward off real or potential harmful effects through the removal of plants, relief or water changes, etc.
