Protected landscape component of the Rosenberg quarry
The protected landscape component quarry Rosenberg with 0.75 hectares is located in the urban area of Marsberg north of Westheim in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated in 2008 with the Marsberg landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis as a protected landscape component (LB). The LB is surrounded by the nature reserve Randhöhen between Sintfeld and Diemeltal .
description
The landscape plan explains the LB: “The protected object covers a small, abandoned limestone excavation on the western lower slope of the Rosenberg with a fissured rock wall up to 20 m high and an upstream limestone debris pile. The area is particularly conspicuous due to its pronounced canyon forest character with the typical species of the tree layer (predominantly ash and sycamore maple) and high proportions of moon violes in the herb layer. This plant community continues west of the quarry-bounding farm road in a valley location with periodically water-bearing brook. As a typical vegetation complex of the cool, humid mountain areas, it stands out in an almost alien way from the surrounding, predominantly dry, warm habitat types of the planning area. The Zechstein outcrop of the quarry wall is geoscientifically worthy of preservation and with its numerous fissures increases the biotope diversity in the area. On the partially overhanging upper edge there is predominantly pine forest; in the north and west the canyon forest relics merge into spruce forests. The LB is latently endangered by tilting - especially with organic material. "
Protection purpose
The designation as LB took place:
- To maintain, develop or restore the efficiency and functionality of the natural balance
- For revitalizing, structuring or maintaining the townscape and landscape
- To ward off harmful effects
Like the other LBs in the landscape plan area, the LB represents an outstanding habitat for the ecological performance of the natural balance. It also serves as an element that structures and animates the landscape. The designation serves to ward off real or potential harmful effects through the removal of plants, relief or water changes, etc.
