Pauline V. Young
Pauline Vislick Young (nee Pauline Vislick ) (* 1896 in Russian Poland ; † January 27, 1977 in Modesto , California ) was an American sociologist and social worker . Their study The pilgrims of Russian-town belongs to the canon of the Chicago School of Sociology .
Before the start of the war in 1914, Pauline Vislick emigrated from what was then Russian Poland to the USA , where she married the sociologist Erle Fiske Young . From 1915 to her bachelor's degree in 1919, she studied sociology at the University of Chicago . During her studies she worked as a family case worker at the Chicago branch of the American Red Cross . She also worked as a researcher for health and welfare organizations and was a volunteer for the United Charities in Chicago among the Polish population there. In addition, she continued her studies in sociology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles , where she took her master's degree in 1925 and obtained her Ph.D. received his doctorate . Her machine-written doctoral thesis Assimilation problems of Russian Molokans in Los Angeles , was published in 1932 by the University of Chicago Press with a foreword by Robert E. Park and the title The pilgrims of Russian-town . From 1925 Young worked as a state social economist ( California State Social Economist ).
