Rolf Lindner

Rolf Lindner (* 1945 ) is a German sociologist and folklorist .

academic career

Lindner studied sociology , journalism and psychology at the Free University of Berlin and received his doctorate there in 1975 with a thesis on consumer goods advertising by Wolf Lepenies . After a research stay at the University of Chicago and his habilitation (also with Lepenies), he taught as a professor at the Institute for European Ethnology at the Humboldt University in Berlin until 2010 . From 2009 to 2011 he held a visiting professorship at the HafenCity University in Hamburg for the Metropolitan Culture course . Lindner was Visiting Fellow at the Cultural Studies Institute (KWI) Essen (1992/93), Senior Fellow at the International Research Center for Cultural Studies (IFK) Vienna (1998/99) and Senior Fellow at the Laboratory for Popular Cultures at the Institute for Social Anthropology and Empirical Cultural Studies at the University of Zurich ( 2017). He is the first Urban Fellow of the City of Vienna and two-time winner of the ideas competition "PUSH for the humanities" of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (1999, 2006).

Lindner has researched and published intensively on the history of cultural studies , in particular in the field of urban research and cultural studies .

He is on the scientific advisory board of the journal Historische Anthropologie and the journal Sport und Gesellschaft . From 1998 to 2007 he was a member of the editorial board of the journal Cultural Studies .
