school-building

In addition to the Scharoun School in Marl , the Lüner School is one of two school buildings that were entirely designed by Hans Scharoun and built according to his plans.

“The largest and probably most famous part of the building is the former girls' high school built by the world-famous German architect Hans Scharoun from 1956–1962, which is under monument protection. As a unique example of humane school architecture, it bears witness to a democratic and humane architecture concept of the post-war years. The architectural design of the building is more relevant today than ever before. Even after more than 50 years it meets the requirements of a modern learning environment and lesson design. "

In the years 2011 to 2013, the school was renovated and refurbished for around 8.5 million euros and restored to its intended use in a ceremony on April 28 and 29, 2013.

In memory of Scharoun, the artist Andrzej Irzykowski made a bust of him, which can be seen in front of the school, at the entrance to the auditorium, since August 27, 2014.

The Association of German Architects (BDA) recorded after rebuilding the school (responsible architect hospital-Frenking + Black from Lüdinghausen and Dortmund) it as one of the outstanding construction projects in the region over the past four years. According to the jury, the renovation has given one of the most valuable monuments in Germany a new look . In 2015, the NRW Architecture Prize was awarded for the structural and energetic renovation of the school.

To mark this important monument was in 2002 on the initiative of longtime Lüner members of parliament Dieter Wiefelspütz the Scharoun Society Luenen e. V. founded. The chairman is the architect Michael Schwarz (as of 2015).

In 2018, the European Heritage Year , the school received the Big Beautiful Building (BBB) award and plaque .
