The Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium Ludwigshafen (abbreviation: GSG) is a high school in the city of Ludwigshafen am Rhein . It is named after Sophie and Hans Scholl , the Scholl siblings .
history
The history of the school goes back to 1875, when a citizens' initiative was launched to found a higher education institution for girls. The initiative achieved that on May 3, 1875, classes for 60 students could be started. As early as 1876, the Ludwigshafen city council decided that the school was elevated to the status of a municipal educational institution. A year later, the gradual establishment of six high school classes was approved. From 1919 a secondary school was attached to the school, where a high school diploma was held for 12 students for the first time in 1923. On June 4, 1924, the school was renamed the Girls' College. In 1938 the school became a girls' high school as part of the coordination of the school system. On September 6, 1943, the school building was largely destroyed in a bomb attack, and lessons were relocated to neighboring communities. After the war years , the rebuilding of the school began in 1950, which has now been renamed the New Language and Natural Science Girls' High School with Lyceum . The school was given a new name again in 1964 when it was renamed the Städtisches Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium . In 1968 the school was nationalized. Co- education was introduced ten years later . Between 1986 and 1991 the school building was extensively renovated.

The grammar school has a bilingual French branch. There is a regular exchange with France. In an information and documentation center based on the French model, French books and magazines as well as multimedia can be found. With the AbiBac , a degree that is recognized in Germany and France can be completed at Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium.
