The Society for Applied Mathematics and Mechanics ( GAMM ) is an association for the promotion of scientific work. It was founded in 1922 by the engineer Ludwig Prandtl and the mathematician Richard von Mises .

According to the statutes, the task of the GAMM is "to maintain and promote scientific work and international cooperation in applied mathematics as well as in all sub-areas of mechanics and physics , which are among the fundamentals of engineering ". The GAMM pursues this goal primarily by organizing scientific conferences . In addition, the GAMM publishes the journal for applied mathematics and mechanics (ZAMM).

The main focus of the work is a. numerical mathematics , solid mechanics , aerodynamics and fluid mechanics , stochastics , operations research , optimization .

The most important event of the GAMM is the annual conference, which takes place in Germany or in neighboring countries and is attended by hundreds of scientists, mainly because of its scientific program. The proceedings volume PAMM is published every year at the conference. In addition, there are further conferences on special areas from the spectrum of the disciplines represented in the GAMM.

The GAMM annually awards the Richard von Mises Prize to a younger scientist for outstanding achievements in the field of applied mathematics and mechanics.

The society has over 2,000 members. President is Jörg Schröder ( University of Duisburg-Essen ).
