The Society for Knowledge Management eV (abbreviated: GfWM) is the largest regionally distributed and nationally connected network of actors in knowledge management in the German-speaking area.

history

Since March 17, 2000, the registered non-profit GfWM has been promoting the holistic understanding and dissemination of knowledge management in society and organizations ( companies , associations , parties, etc.).

Via regional groups (e.g. Berlin, Frankfurt, etc.) the GfWM offers a platform open to all interested parties for regular, interdisciplinary exchange on practical and research experience. In 2010 the 100th Frankfurt regional event took place in Frankfurt and in 2013 the ten-year foundation of the regional group was celebrated in Berlin. While the foundation goes back to a university initiative, the GfWM was open to science, business, administration, politics and interested individuals right from the start. Members from science are u. a. Probst (Uni Geneva), Peter Pawlowsky (TU Chemnitz), North (FH Wiesbaden), representatives from the business world, including IBM, Bosch, BMW, ThyssenKrupp, Credit Suisse, PricewaterhouseCoopers, but also from small and medium-sized companies, as well as freelance consultants and representatives of public administrations and institutes (including the City of Erlangen, City of Cologne, Ministry of the Interior, Würzburg City Library).

Mission and vision

In the self-image of the GfWM, the social and economic well-being as well as the success of companies and organizations of all kinds depend to a large extent on the effective and efficient management of the raw material knowledge. Therefore, the GfWM formulates its mission statement as follows:

Society [...] supports the professional and responsible use of knowledge. We promote the further development of knowledge management in theory and practice in the dialogue between business, science, administration, politics and society. "

The following characteristics result from this mission statement. The GfWM

  • is a regionally positioned and supraregional network of actors in knowledge management in German-speaking countries.
  • conveys an awareness of the importance of knowledge as a success-critical factor.
  • stimulates the exchange of experts, developers and users in order to promote constant, practice-oriented further development of knowledge management.
  • actively shows the links to other knowledge-relevant topics and underlines her holistic view of knowledge management through cooperation and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • stands for the value-oriented handling of knowledge.

Supraregional work takes place within the association through organized specialist teams. In this way, a knowledge management model based on ISO 9001 and a knowledge map were developed. In addition, the GfWM publishes the quarterly gfwm newsletter and, since December 2011, a regular trade magazine, the gfwm topics .

The GfWM and its international cooperation partners, including the Swiss Knowledge Management Forum (SKMF), promote cross-border networking. Together they developed and published the DA-CH knowledge management glossary in 2009.

In addition, GfWM members appear as guest speakers at many national and international events, e.g. B. CeBIT and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation .

Meetings

With the KnowledgeCamp, the GfWM held the first barcamp on knowledge management in 2009 . The annual KnowledgeCamps are usually always carried out in cooperation with a university. With a live stream transmission on the Internet and corresponding tweets from the audience, a new virtual or real communication space is opened up.
