The DWD Act ( DWDG ) regulates the German Weather Service (DWD). It determines that the DWD has its headquarters in Offenbach am Main , that it is a public law institution with partial legal capacity in the division of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) and that it is divided into divisions, departments and business areas. The DWD is subject to the service and technical supervision of the BMVI, which controls it through target specifications and success checks.

According to the law, tasks of the DWD include providing meteorological and climatological services, meteorological safeguarding of air and sea ​​travel and issuing official warnings about weather phenomena .

The law was last amended in 2017 when §§ 4 "Tasks" and 13 "Evaluation" were revised.
