Sexed sperm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sexed sperm is sperm that has been separated according to the X and Y chromosomes . It is mainly used in animal breeding in order to be able to exclude the undesired gender in the offspring and represents an alternative to sex after the birth of the farm animals.

For this is flow cytometry applied. This procedure uses the larger DNA content of the female sperm to separate the sperm by gender. By applying an electrical voltage, the sperm is separated into three fractions - female , male and unassignable.
