GetSimple CMS is a free web content management system with the primary goal of being simple and easy to use. It is based on the programming language PHP and uses XML - files to store the content. As a flat file content management system , it is in contrast to other CMS software that use databases .

history

GetSimple CMS was created in 2009 by web developer Chris Cagle based in Pittsburg, USA, who continues to lead the project as lead developer. According to his own statements, he created GetSimple CMS out of the need to have a CMS that was "as powerful as WordPress ", but easier to use. Since then, other developers have been part of the GetSimple team . An active community contributes plug-ins, translations and themes.

description

GetSimple CMS was created for smaller websites . The target groups of the CMS are organizations, companies and private individuals who need a small to medium-sized website with a size of 10 to around 500 pages. According to statistics from W3C Tech, the CMS is used by less than 0.1% of all websites. The largest market so far is the Czech Republic .

A simple installation process (copying the files to the web server and starting the installation routine) enables you to work with the program immediately. Some web hosts offer the CMS preinstalled. After installation, the software can be expanded with numerous plug-ins, which can be used to expand the range of functions. In addition, so-called themes are available for an individual design of the website.

The speed is very high because no database queries are necessary. The templates are created in pure PHP and can be easily adapted with little PHP knowledge.

reception

According to the company's own information, the software has been downloaded 120,000 times (as of March 2013). The magazine t3n classifies GetSimple as “small” and “minimal” CMS, praising the simplicity and yet possible expandability through plug-ins . The author of the article states that GetSimple's theming concept is one of the most intuitive that he has seen so far. The British magazine Computeractive emphasizes the backup function and the simplicity and cleanliness of both the editing surface and the templates supplied . The Contentmanager-Magazin devotes a detailed presentation to the CMS and in 2012 included it in a comparison of 15 open source CMSs alongside TYPO3 and WordPress . In May 2010, Hot Scripts ranked the CMS among the ten easiest and lightest scripts on the web, Design Shack ranked it eighth among 50 WordPress alternatives. On the OpenSourceCMS.com website, which specializes in demo installations, GetSimple was among the 30 most frequently and best rated systems (as of 2013).

The German-speaking community was the only language besides English dedicated to a separate area in the official forum.
