history

In 2005 Martin Brüggemann, Jan Christe and Andreas Lenz wrote a diploma thesis on the subject of "Web-based publishing with open source technologies" at the University of Applied Sciences in Hanover . The first issue of the printed t3n magazine appeared on August 31 of the same year with a print run of 5,000 copies. It served as an example of the functionality of the editorial system that had been developed as part of the thesis. The first t3n magazine had 76 pages, the leading article dealt with the TYPO3 content management system .

Over the years, the focus has shifted from software development to the digital economy , in particular on the topics of startups , marketing, social media , e-commerce and new technologies such as artificial intelligence , blockchain and virtual or augmented reality . Due to the increasingly economic context, the t3n magazine moved from the computer shelf to the business shelf of the magazine trade in February 2015. Today t3n describes itself as a magazine for digital economy and is primarily aimed at readers from this very work and interest environment. In 2018, the editorial team of t3n magazine was chosen by Medium Magazin and the business journalist as one of the top 3 German business editors . In December 2019, the t3n magazine, headed by editor-in-chief Luca Caracciolo, received the lead award in silver.
