Geter
In the Old Testament, Geter is the third oldest son of Aram , grandson of Sem and great-grandson of Noach .
etymology
The origin of the personal name גֶתֶר gætær is unknown. The Septuagint gives the name as Γαθερ Gater , the Vulgate as Gether , the Samaritan Pentateuch as Gātar .
Biblical narration
Geter is only mentioned in the table of nations in Gen 10.23 EU and in the family tree 1 Chr 1.17 EU . His brothers are called Uz , Hul and Masch . The section Gen 10: 22-23 EU of the table of nations, in which Hul and his brothers are mentioned, belongs to the priestly scriptures.
Extra-biblical
According to the Muslim scholar Ibn Kathir , Geter is the father of Thamud and Salih . Thamud is the progenitor of the Thamūd .
Flavius Josephus sees him as the progenitor of the Bactrians , Jerome and Isidore of Seville , however, identify him as the progenitor of Akarnier or Karier .
