The Getreidemarktkaserne in Vienna's 6th district originally (from 1732) consisted of a private house.

After the dissolution of the Stadtguardia by Maria Theresa in 1741, the citizens of Vienna were given the opportunity to buy themselves out of the billing obligation by building barracks .

On April 5, 1748, after Maria Theresa had approved the plans drawn up by the military engineer Donato Felice d'Allio and the Salzgries barracks had been completed , construction began on the property belonging to the Theobaldkloster. The new barracks on the area Rahlgasse 1, Gumpendorfer Straße 2–12, Theobaldgasse 1–7 and 2–10 as well as Königsklostergasse 2–4 were moved into on September 25, 1753.

In the course of the barracks transaction , the barracks of the Austro-Hungarian Army were demolished in 1903 and a new city quarter was created, including Theobaldgasse.
