The common umber , also called bartumber , umber fish or shadow fish ( Umbrina cirrosa ) is a species of fish from the umber fish family (Sciaenidae). It occurs in the eastern Atlantic from the Bay of Biscay to southern Morocco and possibly further south, in the Mediterranean , the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov . The species is fished commercially and also caught by sport anglers. Due to its rapid growth, its value as a good food fish and the ability to reproduce in captivity, it is also considered to be a very promising candidate for use in aquaculture .
