The wavy water ear ( Aponogeton undulatus ) is an amphibious plant from the family of water ear plants .

description

The perennial herbaceous plant forms a tuber. Its very delicate, medium-green leaves with wavy edges are ribbon-shaped and grow out of a rosette. Their height is 20 to 40 centimeters.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = about 70 or about 74.

Occurrence

The plant has its natural range in southern Asia and occurs from northern India to Thailand and Myanmar, in Malaysia (Johor) and on Borneo.

Use in the aquarium hobby

Like a number of the water spikes , this plant is also offered in specialist shops for planting aquariums . Unlike most water-ear species, this species is one of the problem-free aquarium plants . It does not require any rest period in which the tuber can regenerate and is easy to multiply. The light requirement of this type of plant is medium to high. No additional carbon dioxide fertilization is necessary either .

The corrugated water ear needs water temperatures between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius. It is suitable for planting the background and central zone in the aquarium and can also be used as a specimen plant . Due to its size, the aquarium in which it is maintained should hold at least 100 liters of water.
