Thread template

Thread template for Whitworth threads

Thread templates (also thread gauges or thread combs ) are used to check the thread pitch with a given flank steepness .

Construction and function

application

The thread template works with the light gap method and is suitable for external threads. It is only suitable to a limited extent for internal threads. A thread template set is suitable for a specific thread standard with a fixed pitch and shape. Each thread template embodies a specific pitch. The individual measuring templates are combined in a fan-like manner. The shape is incorporated on one side of the sheet metal as a negative shape of the thread .

application

To check a thread for dimensional accuracy, the template is simply placed on the thread and held against a bright light source. If light penetrates between the template and the thread, the thread does not meet the requirements.

To determine the slope and steepness of the slope, you test with the different templates until one of them fits exactly, i.e. almost no light can shine through. The measured slope and slope can then be read from the labeling of the relevant gauge

The thread template cannot be used to make any statements about other parameters of the thread .
