Ghalib Andang

Ghalib Andang (first name also: Galib ) (* between 1960 and 1967 ; † March 15, 2005 in Manila ), also called Commander Robot , was a member of the Abu Sajaf extremist group in the Philippines . He was charged with several acts of terrorism .

It became known around the world in early 2000 for the kidnapping of 22 western hostages from a holiday resort on the Malaysian island of Sipadan . The Wallert family from Göttingen was also among the hostages .

Andang belonged to the Tausug ethnic group . When he was 10 years old, his grandmother was murdered and he joined the Moro Liberation Front, MNLF . In the Malaysian province of Sabah , he is said to have worked as a bus driver and movie ticket collector. When the MNLF made a pact with the government in Manila in 1996 , Andang joined the Abu Sajaf terrorist group.

Andang was captured by the Filipino military on December 8, 2003 and transferred from Jolo Island to a military hospital in Manila with wounds to both legs . Here his leg was amputated.

On March 15, 2005, during a prison riot at Camp Bagong Diwa on the outskirts of Manila , he was shot dead by police along with other Abu Sajaf supporters, such as Alhamzer Manatad Limbong , who went by the battle name of Kosovo, and Nadzmie Sabtulah, aka Commander Global .
