Gheorghe A. Polizu

Gheorghe A. Polizu (* 1819 in Bucharest ; † 16th October 1886 ) was a Romanian physician and lexicographer, linguist ( Rumänist ) and German studies .

Life

Polizu was a doctor in Bucharest. He wrote a Romanian-German dictionary of 20,000 Romanian entries, including many neologisms , which was published in Kronstadt ( Brașov ) in 1857 . Polizu was an honorary member of the Romanian Academy .

In Bucharest a street and a maternity hospital are named after him. In 1994 a Romanian postage stamp with his portrait and the inscription “Gh. Polizu 1819-1886 “published ( Michel catalog RO 5042).
