Ghiblies ( Japanese ギ ブ リ ー ズ ) is the title of two anime short films by Studio Ghibli from 2000 and 2002.
content
The films tell short, funny episodes from everyday life in the fictional animation studio Giburi . The stories, which are only partially connected, revolve around everyday office life, the work processes in animated films, taking breaks and after work. The Ghibli employees often parody themselves. The focus is on Oku-chan, who has the shape of a pig and explains animation techniques, Nonaka-kun, who is always unhappy in love, and her colleague Yukari-san.
As the studio writes in the film itself or, unlike Studio Ghibli, the title speaks with a hard G.
Production and publication
The two films were made at Studio Ghibli during the production time of the feature film My Neighbors the Yamadas , for which parts of the studio were newly equipped. In order to familiarize themselves with the new work tools, the employees created the short stories about their everyday life, which were then continued in the second film. Therefore, the episodes are implemented very experimentally and combine, for the first time for Studio Ghibli, computer animation with classic cel animation . A few real film recordings and photographs were also included. Directed by Yoshiyuki Momose , who also wrote the scripts. Hiroyuki Watanabe acted as producer and Manto Watanobe composed the music . The song No Women No Cry , sung by Tine, was used for the credits . The character designs are by Toshio Suzuki and Toshio Kawaguchi , the artistic direction was Noboru Yoshida . The computer animations were created under the direction of Mitsunori Kataama .
The first film with a running time of 12 minutes was shown on April 8, 2000 as part of a documentary about the Studio Ghibli by Nippon TV . The second part with 25 minutes was released on July 19, 2002 together with The Kingdom of Cats in Japanese cinemas. They later appeared together on DVD, in the USA only the second part. This came in 2016 together with a subtitled revival of Spirited Away in the American cinemas.
