Ghinolfo Dattari

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ghinolfo Dattari (* around 1537 in Bologna ; † May 1617 there ) was an Italian singer and composer .

Nothing is known about Dattari's youth. From February 1555 he had a job as a singer in the chapel of San Petronio , of which he belonged for 62 years, until his death. After the death of Kapellmeister Andrea Rota (1553–1597), Dattari held the post of provisional Kapellmeister for 18 months. After that he was a simple band singer again, but his salaries were increased. In his will he described himself as Musico eccellentissimo

Several collections of polyphonic dance songs ( Villanelles ) have been handed down by Dattari , in a simple style that probably met the desire for easy entertainment of his clients, who belonged to the Bolognese nobility.
