location
Ghost Lake is dammed by the Ghost Dam . This was completed in 1929 and is located in the eastern foothills of the Canadian Rockies 16 km west of Cochrane below the confluence of the Ghost River coming from the north . On the north shore of the lake at the mouth of the Ghost River there is a simple tent and rest area operated by the Ghost Reservoir Provincial Recreational Area .
Reservoir
The reservoir is mainly used to generate electrical energy . The connected power plant supplies electricity especially during peak loads . This leads to greater fluctuations in the water level. The maximum water area is 11.6 km². The water level is at normal damming at about 1191 m . The storage space comprises 70 million m³.
power plant
The hydropower plant is operated by TransAlta . It has an installed capacity of 51 MW and an average annual energy production of 173 GWh.
