Giacomo Amari

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Giacomo "Jake" Amari († 1997 ) was an Italian-American mobster of the American Cosa Nostra and member of the DeCavalcante family , which operates from its headquarters in Elizabeth (New Jersey) .

Criminal background

According to the 1999 testimony of Pentitos Vincent Palermo , Amari was a notorious and unscrupulous capo regime (captain) before he was promoted to reigning underboss by family boss Giovanni Riggi in 1989 .

Amari was reportedly heavily involved in labor racketeering ( Labor Racketeering ) in Newark in the 1980s and was imprisoned for this in the early 1990s, along with Giovanni Riggi. After Riggi was imprisoned and John D'Amato ran the family as the acting boss, Amari developed a close partnership with the consigliere (advisor) Stefano Vitabile .

After the official, long-standing underboss Louis LaRasso apparently fell victim to a so-called Lupara Bianca in 1991 and disappeared without a trace, Amari officially took over his office and managed all labor and construction operations as well as AMI Construction from Elizabeth. While he also served as an "advisor" to Local 394 in the International Association of Laborers and Hod Carriers , he was promoted again in 1992, replacing D'Amato, who also disappeared without a trace, as the new acting boss of the DeCavalcante family after it became known that he was alleged to have engaged in homosexual acts.

In 1995, Jake Amari was reported to have been diagnosed with stomach cancer. Then Riggi organized around 1997 a three-man committee, consisting of Girolamo Palermo , Vincent Palermo (not related) and Charles Majuri , which was supposed to regulate the day-to-day business with Consigliere Stefano Vitabile.

Giacomo "Jake" Amari, the most powerful member of the DeCavalcante family at the time, died in 1997 of stomach cancer. His death created a massive power vacuum in the family. Some senior members pushed to become the next boss in the DeCavalcante family.
