Giacomo Pergamini

Giacomo Pergamini (* 1531 in Fossombrone , † 1615 in Rome ) was an Italian lexicographer and grammarian.

life and work

Pergamini was canon in Rome and Fossombrone, and secretary to several prelates. In 1602 he published the first modern European dictionary of definitions under the title II memoriale della lingua , but was thrown out of his fame by the Vocabolario degli Accademici della Crusca , which was stereotypically considered the first Italian dictionary, which appeared ten years later .
