Gianfranco Barra

Gianfranco Barra (born April 5, 1940 in Rome ) is an Italian actor .

Life

Barra attended the Accademia Silvio D'Amico from 1960 and pursued a stage career after graduation. Since 1968 he played in numerous films both scoundrels, crooks and mafia bosses as well as police officers, agents, priests or even traders and caretakers. He is best known to German-speaking audiences as the curious and photographing house servant in Billy Wilder's film Avanti, Avanti with Jack Lemmon and as the crook “Torcillio” in the film Banana Joe with Bud Spencer .

His first film was Luigi Zampa's Il medico della mutua in 1968 ; Barra soon established himself as a character actor, especially comic roles. He often worked with director Steno in the 1970s . During the 1980s and especially the 1990s, he also cemented his reputation as a serious performer. He now also accepted offers from television and orders for commercials.
